About Wesley Kids

Wesley Kids Childcare and Preschool is a small, non-profit and tax exempt pre-school and child care center serving downtown Albuquerque. P'Sghetti Day is the primary fundraiser for Wesley Kids, and this event helps raise funds for educational toys and equipment, art supplies, teacher training and incentives and support for the low-income families we subsidize.

A Ministry for Children
Wesley Kids provides an environment where children are nurtured and experience God’s love. Each child is accepted as an individual. Our integrated approach to Christian education encourages children to discover and explore God’s world using all of their senses. Christian teachings are incorporated into all aspects of your child’s day, and a weekly worship service called "Chapel Time" is celebrated with all of the children.

Staff
Wesley Kids staff is chosen for their true love of children, their professionalism and their enthusiasm for the Early Childhood Program. They are screened and pass a criminal records check as well as passing a health check before being able to work with children. They complete a minimum of 24 hours of training a year, including annual updates of CPR training and First Aid. Some of our staff has been with us almost since Wesley Kids was created in 1992. Wesley Kids practices accreditation standards maintaining some of the lowest child to teacher ratios inAlbuquerque and is a 4-star program with Children, Youth and Families Department of NM, (CYFD).

Learning by Doing
At Wesley Kids, we support the hands-on, interactive learning process by providing stimulating, developmentally appropriate materials and activities. Our program meets and exceeds the State regulations for training, adult/child ratios and teacher qualifications.

Our commitment to families ensures that parents are supported and children’s developmental needs are being met. We do this by communicating with daily reports, parent-teacher conferences, making available information concerning parent education classes and referrals to the appropriate agencies for children with special needs.

Both independence and cooperation are nurtured and teachers facilitate self-control in children by using positive guidance and redirection techniques.

The First UMC congregation is equally supportive of the various Wesley Kids activities and helps maintain our wonderful First UMC Children’s Library.

Special Activities
We include special activities such as the arts, music, and Spanish language. Gymnastics is an optional activity that is available at an additional cost each month.
Gross motor skills are developed with extra emphasis on outdoor play and sports. Fine motor skills are encouraged from the first moment an infant can grasp an object.

Enrollment
Children are accepted from 6 weeks of age to 5 years of age. Our infant program has spacious rooms with three teachers to ten infants. Mothers who continue to nurse their babies are encouraged to drop by at any time and use one of our designated nursing rooms.

There is a classroom for each year of age but each child is assessed individually for their developmental level before being transitioned into the next class. The 5 year old class prepares the children academically and socially for their entry into kindergarten.

Full and part-time options are available. Wesley Kids accepts a certain number of State Assisted Children depending on availability.
